Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for May 27.
Australian thoroughbred TAB meetings are today held at Hawkesbury, Albury, Seymour and Townsville.
HAWKESBURY: RACE 4 @ 2:25 PM
SERENE NIC (2) was enormous first-up at Gosford but couldn't repeat the effort in town last start. Beautifully in after the claim and should be at her peak now. Maps nicely from the good gate so no excuses. SUPER NUI (3) led all the way and won by panels last time out over 1350m at Wyong in a BM64 for the mares. Meets a deeper field today but the win was very pleasing to the eye. Sure to be in the mix again. CELTIC SIN (6) returned from a four-month spell with an authoritative maiden win over 1350m at Wyong recently. Ran much quicker time than Super Nui on the same card so the effort was full of merit. Looks ready to take this next step. MAGICON (1) has been freshened up since a smart win over 1850m at Newcastle five weeks ago. Will be better for the run but cannot be ruled out. Last start Goulburn winner COSMEENA (5) is a progressive filly with each-way claims.
SELECTIONS: Backing Serene Nic.

ALBURY: RACE 2 @ 1:35 PM
MAGNOLIA STAR (8) is yet to make an impact on raceday but looks to have returned in top order following two strong trial wins. The booking of McDougall is a significant lead. Expecting her to be ready to fire first-up and prove very hard to hold out. DONEGAL BAY (2) steps out for the new stable and brings form out of deeper Victorian maidens. While the 900m may be on the sharp side for him, he'll appreciate a genuine tempo and should be steaming home late if the pace is on. WALLABY JACK (7) resumes as well and gave a good account behind Magnolia Star in a recent trial. Honest type who can figure in the finish. BARBECUE SAUCE (1) was plain on debut despite the market support but did have an excuse. Worth keeping safe on the bounce back.
SELECTIONS: Magnolia Star to win.
SEYMOUR: RACE 5 @ 2:00 PM
SALTBURN (5) is close to a win and gets his chance. Runner-up last couple when finding the line strongly and looks ideally placed to go one better. JINGU EXPRESS (9) has placed in four of the last five and although still a maiden, recent runs have been career best. Races on speed and has the inside so drawn to be right in this. ITWASONLYAKISS (3) is another long overdue with placings at four of the last five. Winds up strongly and looks hard to hold out late. QISMAH (12) hasn't been far away lately including a placing over the mile over the border in the latest. In the mix on best figures. DANIEL BOONE (1) hasn't threatened in two runs to date but gets a tongue tie today which might prove to be significant.
SELECTIONS: Stay with Saltburn.
TOWNSVILLE: RACE 5 @ 3:47 PM
BOOMING LAD (4) won a 70 here and then narrowly missed the hat-trick at Mackay. Gets in light this grade with a 2kg claim atop and is suited back to the shorter sprint. Races forward and is the one to beat. NORTHERN EXPRESS (2) resumes and has switched from the Michael Nolan yard at Toowoomba. Brings strong metro form and was last seen in the Listed Weetwood Handicap. Has a handy 2kg claim and has won twice fresh. The betting will be key. YOUR TOO GOOD (5) peaks and has won 2/3 this track/trip. Maps well, and carries a feather with the 3kg claim. She has claims. MISSILE THUNDER (1) is hard-fit and just missed at Cairns following the placing here, both at this level. He flies at the track and also deserves consideration.
SELECTIONS: Backing Booming Lad.
