Today’s Horse Racing Tips - 25th May 2025

3 minute read

Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for May 25.

Picture: Racing Photos

Australian thoroughbred TAB meetings are today held at Gunnedah, Hobart, Mildura, Ballarat, Sunshine Coast, Kalgoorlie, Roebourne and Mount Gambier.

GUNNEDAH: RACE 5 @ 2:51 PM

OAKFIELD MERCURY (5) made a good impression on debut with a handy win at this track. Can only be improved for that and if he does improve he'll take plenty of stopping. CHILLCUZ (8) is set to improve on a handy placing at this track when resuming. Wouldn't be leaving her out of the main hopes. OFF THE SCALE (13) caught the eye when rattling home into the frame first-up at Tamworth. Not as effective last time at Scone but can be forgiven. Drops back in trip on the short turnaround. Sharp improvement anticipated. JASPER'S WAY (9) and MISS CLAMOROSA (10) are each-way hopes.
SELECTIONS: Oakfield Mercury to win.

HOBART: RACE 8 @ 3:21 PM

ZULU ANGEL (1) just missed at Moonee Valley three back this distance range and came back home last time and was okay over a mile. Has a class edge and is suited stepping back up to a staying trip. Maps well, and the 1.5kg claim is handy. Sets the standard. ASHFALL (2) capped a strong run of form, comfortably winning a 74 over 2200m. Keeps the top hoop and he's the danger. HAPPY CLAN (3) didn't manage the wide gate last time but just missed prior in a CL6. Maps well and is in light this grade with a 2kg claim atop. Expect him to manage the longer trip. PENNINE (4) may be a run short but likes this trip and should be around the mark. DOONICAN (5) needs to find more, but may be the best of the rest.
SELECTIONS: Backing Zulu Angel.

MILDURA: RACE 3 @ 2:05 PM

JUST HANGIN' (4) stepped up to 1840m at Kyneton and ran his best race, narrowly beaten. He can race forward again, and he won't have to be much improved to be winning. EMPIRESTATEOFMIND (3) also races handy and resumed with a solid placing at Murray Bridge, over 1800m. Raced at big odds, but it was a good effort, and he will be better for the outing. HENRY'S FAITH (8) has been racing well enough in South Australia without winning. He has marginal claims. GARNET BAY (7) has been struggling for form, but he was better at Donald last time, and he should be around the mark in this line-up. CONISTON HERO (2) has a low gate and 2kg claim and may be the best of the rest.
SELECTIONS: Backing Just Hangin'.

BALLARAT: RACE 3 @ 1:10 PM

CHANTILLY (7) is a very nicely bred filly by top sire I Am Invincible who debuts here for the Begg yard. She's looked the part at the trials and expecting the camp to have her well educated for this. Tipping she could be quite smart. DEMARCATE (2) is a colt by Brazen Beau on debut for the Cummings yard. He's won a Flemington jump out and the stable must be respected despite a tricky draw. DOMESTIC BLISS (8) is a filly by Capitalist on debut for the savvy Dabernig yard. She's been jumping out nicely and any market support is worth keeping an eye on. WELL HALLO (11) next pick of the newcomers.
SELECTIONS: Chantilly to win.

SUNSHINE COAST: RACE 1 @ 12:40 PM

SETHFIRE (2) is knocking on the door of a maiden victory placing at the past couple of outings and strikes a very winnable contest here. Has placed over this track and trip and draws perfectly for Mallyon in gate three. Rates the testing material. PAPAL WARS (1) is unlucky to still be a maiden placing in six of 12 overall starts and should be ready to peak now third-up from the spell. Looms as the main danger. PURE THOUGHTS (8) has gotten better with each run since joining the new stable and gets the services of gun hoop Maloney in the irons. Top-three credentials. Former Victorian ORMOND ROAD (6) has been thereabouts in both local efforts and may earn some minor money. ABOVEFORTY (4) next in line from the Waller yard.
SELECTIONS: Sethfire to shed the maiden tag.

KALGOORLIE: RACE 4 @ 4:55 PM

Good race at the top. SANTA BRAE (2) ran home strongly first-up over the mile, settling last and rocketing late. The rise in trip and inside draw are both ticks and he usually improves with a run under the belt. Can sit closer this time and get the job done. FEUDING (1) comes through the same race where he was only beaten 1L and finished ahead of Santa Brae. He too draws better this time and his recent effort suggested he's not far off a drought breaking win. He looks the main danger. ALOTTA FIGHTING (6) got the job done over 1612m last start when running on from midfield, shedding the maiden tag. Likely to be back in the run once again, but is open to further improvement out in trip and has claims. ONEMOREFORLEO (3) is better than he showed last start and his form ties in through Santa Brae and Feuding. Include. MAGIC WILL REIGN (4) is on the quick turnaround and can improve out to his preferred track and trip.
SELECTIONS: Santa Brae looks the one to beat.

ROEBOURNE: RACE 6 @ 6:42 PM

VERNACULAR (2) settled back before launching a big run at Port Hedland just over 2 weeks ago, coasting home to a soft win by over 3 lengths. She won't find this much harder and is good enough to make it 2 wins on the bounce. DARE ME (3) races well on the bush circuits and made some good progress last year through the winter months. She comes to hand quickly and will be even stronger after her spell. Hard to beat, especially with the advantage of the pole position. HEEZA BEAU (1) finished fifth as favourite when making her debut from the Dean Cocivera stables at Port Hedland 15 days ago. He raced too keenly that day and will be better for the hit-out. He slides down in class and can take this out. Follow your money. HOT PUDDIN (4) did not fire in a couple of starts at Kalgoorlie after winning at Esperance in March. He has since changed stables, and with a drop back to a sprint trip here, he is likely to be hitting the line hard. Watch for him late. KIA ORA TATOU (5) is out of this.
SELECTIONS: Vernacular to win.

MT GAMBIER: RACE 2 @ 12:50 PM

THE KILL CLUB (1) was game in defeat when resuming over the short trip here and will take plenty of benefit from the run. Draws to get the gun run and looks the one to beat. DISCO TALK (2) stuck on well first-up and is open to further improvement second-up. Should be in the finish again. TEE EM I (12) was not far away last start and gets in light. Capable of running into the minors. Keep safe. AMBUSHED (9) was much better last start when racing prominently. Drops back in trip but is in the mix.
SELECTIONS: The Kill Club to win.
