Selections and best bets from Chris Scholtz for the Gosford Cup meeting on Saturday May 10 plus Trial Watch and Blackbook runners.
GOSFORD May 10
Best Bets
RACE 2 (1) SEQUISTA: Maiden filly takes on winners under the topweight but she's a trial winner on soft ground and rates to win on what she has shown in her two career starts at Randwick. Opened with an impressive third behind the classy Within The Law and Cobra Club in the Listed Inglis Nursery (1000m) in December and didn't reappear until April 12 when a game fourth behind the top filly Tempted in the G2 Percy Sykes (1200m) when it was a surprise to see her lead. Has them covered on that form.
RACE 7 (3) HEZASHOCKA: Won this race last year when run at Newcastle on a heavy track and while he's carrying 3.5kg more he's run in the same lead-up races and gets here ready to peak at his fourth run since resuming. We know he finds lengths in soft/heavy going and that was evident in his final lead-up when second in the JRA Plate (2000m) at Randwick on a Soft 5. Last year he finished third in the JRA Plate (heavy)so it's fair to say he's at least in the same form.
RACE 8 (8) MARE OF MT BULLER: Quality mare has been freshened since her classy Group form over the autumn carnival, recording a classy win in the G3 Epona Stakes over 1900m at Rosehill on March 22 after a third in the G3 Aspiration Stakes (1600m) at Randwick She bypassed a winnable race at Hawkesbury last Saturday, a positive sign the top stable has her primed to run well under favourable conditions.

TRIAL POINTERS
WARWICK FARM April 29: In a keenly run heat over 799m the eye catcher was the late work by LULUMON taking advantage of the better ground out wide to run home strongly for second. 2YOs to make an impression in the juvenile heats included FIREPOP.
WYONG April 24: Quality sprinter BRUDENELL recorded a comfortable win in his 845m heat (52.22; 37.75).
RANDWICK April 14: Smart Shalaa filly WINNING PROPOSAL is a new addition to the Bjorn Baker stable after taking on some classy races for her former trainer Kristen Buchanan. A typical Baker trial to lead and was never off the bit extending easily off the turn to win her 740m heat by a soft margin in the quickest of the three heats over the distance (42.89; 32.74). RANTAN is already the winner of three of her nine starts and there's more to come for the I Am Invincible filly after an impressive return in her first trial since a Rosehill placing in January. She was widest from the start in her 740m heat (42.96; 32.95) and was six deep on the turn before working to the line under no pressure for a strong second.
