Selections and best bets from Chris Scholtz for the Randwick meeting on January 25 plus Trial Watch and Blackbook runners for the January 24-28.
RANDWICK January 25
Best Bets
RACE 4 (4) UNLIMITED: Strong second up winner over this course and distance then beaten a nose by the in form Bullets High when he stepped up to this class over 2100m at Wyong where the tighter track played against him. Open to further improvement and confident the return to Randwick is very much in his favour.
RACE 6 (8) IMPOSANT: Honest mare ready to peak after finishing runner-up in her two starts in this class since resuming. Conceded 2kg to the talented winner Tuileries when resuming over 1300m at this course then recorded fast closing sectionals when she came wide from the rear for second to Headley Grange over 1350m at Wyong. Out to 1400m is ideal on this big track - she just needs clear air at the right time to finish over the top of this field.
RACE 8 (5) NOBLE CONQUEROR: Generous odds for a strong 5YO who has come back to racing in fine form, beating subsequent winner Headley Grange first-up over 1300m at this course before a late closing fifth in fast time over 1350m at Wyong behind the promising Yorkshire. Should have been in the finish last time after being badly held up and is well placed returning to Randwick with the advantage of a 2kg allowance.

TRIAL POINTERS
HAWKESBURY January 20: BEIWACHT backed up his recent Warwick Farm trial win with another strong effort to win his 800m heat in average time (46.86; 33.60), doing all that was required to get the upper hand in the last 100m. Unraced Capitalist filly BREMEL was blackbooked after she won a Rosehill trial in September. She again displayed her natural pace as she sped to a big lead in her 800m heat on the bit, cruising to the line in fast time (45.89; 32.35) to score by more than four lengths. Other A grass heat winners to make an impression included WEEPING WOMAN (798m 46.83; 33.34).
RANDWICK January 14: With the benefit of a first-up trial at Warwick Farm behind him the classy sprinter SCHWARZ trucked through his 1050m heat, taking control after 200m and running freely to post the fastest time in the three heats over the distance (61.86; 33.44). If he has a trouble free prep he is sure to a contender in some good sprints. Unraced filly OPEN SECRET put in good work late to grab a narrow win over her classy stablemate Bel Merci in the slowest of the three juvenile heats (44.29; 33.56). Other smart heat winners included the promising maidens MAJORCA SUNSET and TWINKLING STAR.
CANTERBURY January 9: Extreme Choice filly MISS FLEETWOOD showed the benefit of two earlier trials to comfortably win the fastest of the two heats over 908m (56.38; 35.61). She easily took up the running and responded nicely when called on. Put on a show when a late scratching after she broke free at Rosehill last Saturday. I was taken by the effort of unraced Written By gelding JACOB'S LADDER to finish second behind a subsequent winner in his 908m heat. It was only his second trial appearance in what has proven to be a strong trial.
ROSEHILL January 7: In the two 2YO heats over 900m efforts of runners to impress included UNITED STATES having an easy time to finish third with the best part his work through the line. The 1030m heat for the juveniles was won by ALIGNED (63.67; 35.64) responding to pressure to get the better of his rivals in the last 100m.
WARWICK FARM January 3: The 2YO heats winners over 799m included Godolphin's BEIWACHT (47.21; 33.56), a good type by Bivouac. His strong win indicates he has come on well from his early educational trials. The classy sprinter SCHWARZ looked in good form working easily in his heat to finish third.
ROSEHILL December 10: Maidens to perform well included MIA BALLERINA.
RANDWICK December 9: Plenty of depth in these heats with numerous runners having "quiet" trials. Maidens to take the eye with plenty to offer included HEAVENLY KISS.
ROSEHILL June 21: MLINZI did more than enough to warrant interest when she appears.
