Since it was reduced to 2100m this face has favoured horses drawn in single figures.
Camille Pissarro drew gate 1 so that was to his advantage to start with and then at the pointy end managed to squeeze through a tight gap and get the head out and win the Prix du Jockey Club to keep Cualificar in second spot. Cualificar had drawn a double-digit gate so if the draw had been reversed would that have changed things? Nobody know as it was a very tight finish with margins of ½, nk, hd, nk, shd for the first six over the line. The winner gets an automatic entry into the Arc but O'Brien was non-commital at this stage however the second Caulificar will head that way and should appreciate the extra trip.
Also at Chantilly on Sunday (apart from the parade led by the wonderful Cirrus des Aigles looking as good as ever) there was the G3 Prix du Gros-Chêne over 1000m which provided some hefty pocket money for anyone who backed the winner Monteille on 29/1 or the second Lesslepasser 45/1and if you had the trifecta with Ponntos 10/1 you could almost by the Chateau!
The G2 Prix de Sandringham over 1600m wasn't that generous with the winner Godspeed on 7/2. Second home was Eponine 10/1 and third was English raider Betty Clover 6/1.
