Duchess Hopefuls Sparkle in Bumper Champ de Mars Workout

Over 160 runners hit the track in a lively training morning as top stables fine tuned contenders for the fast-approaching Duchess of York Cup.

Busy Morning Gallops at Champ de Mars as Duchess of York Cup Contenders Sharpen Up

The Champ de Mars witnessed its busiest training session of the season so far, with over 160 horses taking to the track under clear blue skies and in front of a notably large group of early spectators. With the racing season drawing closer, trainers ramped up preparations across the board, with many contenders stretching out in fast work.

Leading stables including those of Vincent Allet, Ramapatee Gujadhur, Rameshwar Gujadhur, Samraj Mahadia, Arveen Nagadoo, Shirish Narang, Vicky Ruhee, and Amar Sewdyal sent out their strings for serious workouts. In contrast, the yards of Preetam Daby and Carl Hewitson opted for lighter exercises.

  • Captain Bombshell, a leading candidate for the Duchess of York Cup, impressed in a 1000m workout alongside Global Glory, with both horses quickening smartly in the straight.
     
  • Newcomers Blue Bay and Courtly looked composed in a joint 800m gallop, while Menelaus turned in a sharp solo effort over the same distance.
     
  • The Rameshwar Gujadhur yard caught the eye with a string of strong performances from Elmo, Willie John, Captain Lannister, and the pair of Havana Moon Kaisarissa.
     
  • Magnum P I produced a sharp 600m sprint that suggested he's nearing top form.
     
  • Another newcomer, Port Louis, fitted with a tongue tie, partnered Join The Dots for a promising 1000m spin.
     
  • Smuts asserted himself over Arlingtons Revenge, pulling clear with ease.
     
  • Most of the Vincent Allet trained horses were given solid 1000m gallops, reflecting their steady progression towards race fitness.
