David O’Meara looks to have a very useful filly on his hands after Estrange sauntered to a wide-margin victory in the Group 3 Lester Piggott Fillies’ Stakes at Haydock on Saturday.

A classy operator last season, which ended with a smooth success in Listed company at Doncaster, Estrange was sent off a 13/8 chance to make a winning four-year-old debut in the hands of Danny Tudhope.

In all truth, those that took the 13/8 never had too many moments of other as Danny Tudhope loomed up travelling powerfully on the striking grey. The market leader Shaha attempted to go the with the David O'Meara-trained rival, but she never looked like being able to lay a glove on the eventual winner, who ultimately strode clear for an effortless four-and-a-quarter length triumph.

The daughter of Night Of Thunder, who suffered her defeat to date at Yarmouth last season, was cut to 33/1 (from 66s) for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, for which she does hold an entry.

Speaking to the PA, O'Meara said: "Danny said she's great to ride. She shuts down and saves energy, you can put her anywhere and give her a small squeeze and she comes alive. For me for the yard, for everyone it is brilliant to have a horse like her in the yard.

"She handles cut in the ground; she's gone on good ground today. I think we'll stay away from quick conditions, but the Pretty Polly (at the Curragh) could be considered or there's a race back here, the Lancashire Oaks, and then the Yorkshire Oaks and if she is good enough it would be great to be considering Longchamp.

"Potentially she could be the best we've had."
