Aidan O’Brien completed a double in the Chester Classic trials on Wednesday afternoon when Lambourn landed the Boodles Chester Vase Stakes.
Shortly after Moore had driven promising filly Minnie Hauk to success in the Cheshire Oaks, the Ballydoyle number one once again proved why he was the best in the business with a determined victory on Lambourn.
Sent off an 11/8 shot to give Aidan O'Brien a record-extending eleventh win in the Epsom Derby trial, Lambourn found himself pushed along with plenty of distance to travel, but he continued to find for pressure and eventually stayed on best of all to deny Charlie Johnston's Lazy Griff by a length and a half. Convergent, who made the running, finished back in third for Karl Burke.
Coolmore's Paul Smith told ITV Racing: "I'm very happy with this colt, he's a lovely colt by Australia.
"As you can see, he's lazy in the way he runs and he's first off the bridle often and a little bit green. He will learn a lot from today, he's got a big engine and Ryan likes him, he's a big, honest horse.
"I think he's a good horse who will stay the trip, will do anything for you and he has to be in the Derby mix.
"I think the key is to get the trials out of the way (before we know what type of horse he is). It's an old cliche but we won't know until they are all over and we have a better picture then, then we can make an assessment."
The winner was cut to 25/1 from 50s for the Epsom Derby by Coral on the back of his success.
