Having claimed the silver medal in last year’s renewal, connections of Lattam will be hoping he can go one spot better in the William Hill Lincoln at Doncaster on Saturday.
The Julie Camacho-trained six-year-old, who won the Irish equivalent in 2023 at the Curragh under the care of William Haggas, is a general 12/1 chance for the traditional curtain-raiser of the British flat season.
A four-time winner from fifteen career starts, Lattam has failed to get his head in front for the Camacho team, but he posted two excellent efforts in defeat last season, finishing runner-up to Mr Professor in the Lincoln before filling the same position in the valuable Balmoral Handicap at Ascot on Champions Day.
"Touch wood, so far we've had a very smooth winter with him, we've been able to do what we wanted, when we wanted," said Steve Brown, assistant and partner to Julie Camacho, on Sky Sports Racing.
"It's been a slight advantage that this is our second year with him, which is helpful. Thankfully, he doesn't need a tremendous amount of fast work.
"We're in a situation where hopefully he's cherry-ripe without being overly-done for Saturday."
With the ground currently officially described as good-to-soft and Lattam seemingly at his best when fresh, Brown is confident of another big run from the unexposed son of Lope De Vega.
"He's at his best fresh, so therefore we're quite selective when we run him, and he also needs ground on the easy side," said Brown. "So, there are times he's ready to run, and we can't run him, which is frustrating."
"His two big targets last year were the Lincoln and the Balmoral; he ran big races in both, but it would be great to go one better this year."
