“You have to fancy his chances of following up” - Sam King’s daily wagers

Sam King tipped Ash Wednesday to score at Wolverhampton last night and is back with two more selections on Tuesday…

We head to Hexham for our first selection and I'm hopeful Rewired can do the business in the two-mile handicap hurdle at 4.20.

The Tristan Davidson-trained seven-year-old has been steadily coming down the weights in recent months and duly got back to winning ways when dropped to Class 4 company at Newcastle in early March.

A useful performer for the Dr Richard Newland and Jamie Insole team, Rewired has spent the majority of his time in Class 2 and 3 handicap hurdles over the years. That drop back to Class 4 level appeared to do the trick for the well-handicapped seven-year-old, who remains very feasibly treated off a 4lb higher mark of 111.

You only have to go back to April last season to find him finishing sixth of nineteen off a rating of 127 in a very competitive handicap hurdle at Aintree's Grand National meeting and with ground conditions no issue for this versatile son of Power, you have to fancy his chances of following up after that confidence-boosting success.

1pt win – Rewired

Odds – 10/3

Over at Newcastle, Life On The Rocks should have too much for his rivals in the second division of the ten-furlong handicap at 5.15.

Richard Fahey's gelding posted an excellent effort in defeat when third at Wolverhampton last time, shaping as though he was unlucky not to go very close having been positioned wide throughout under Oisin Orr.

That was his first start in Class 6 company since he scored at Ayr back in June 2023 and he's clearly a major contender wherever he runs at this level.

A current rating of 54 is more than workable given he landed a Class 4 contest over this trip in the Racing League off 66 at Windsor last summer and whilst he's 0-14 on the all-weather, Richard Fahey's seven-year-old has plenty of pieces of placed form at Newcastle to suggest the surface will pose no problems.

Rampant could provide the main danger if the first-time visor ekes out a little bit more, while We Still Believe  looks a touch high in the weights.

With that in mind, Life On The Rocks looks to be the most likely winner of this moderate affair and can collect the prize for jockey Oisin Orr, who should have plenty of options tactically from a good draw in stall four.

2pt win – Life On The Rocks

Odds – 7/4
