Nicky Henderson’s star chaser Jonbon will take on seven rivals after declarations were revealed for Wednesday’s Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.
The Nicky Henderson-trained nine-time Grade 1 winner is yet to taste success at the Cheltenham Festival after defeats in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle and Arkle in 2023 and 2023 but arrives at Prestbury Park as a general 5/6 chance as he bids to set the record straight.
Henderson's nine-year-old will be looking for a sixth-straight success over fences and bidding to complete a Grade 1 hat-trick following ready victories in the Tingle Creek and Clarence House this season.
Standing in his way will be last year's winner Captain Guinness, who admittedly needs to bounce back to his best having been well-held on all three starts this campaign.
Willie Mullins relies solely on dual winner Energumene, while the best of the Irish opposition may come in the shape of Solness and Marine Nationale, who filled the first two places in the Grade 1 Dublin Chase at Leopardstown last month. The former, who is trained by Joseph O'Brien, looks the likely pace angle on paper, with the latter also worthy of recognition back at the track where he enjoyed success in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle on the opening day of the meeting twelve months ago.
Captain Guinness' stablemate Quilixios also stood his ground.
Found A Fifty completes the six-strong Irish challenge.
Nigel Twiston-Davies' Game Spirit Chase winner Master Chewy is the only other British-trained contender in the line-up.
The other Grade 1 over fences on the card, the Brown Advisory Novices' Chase, will be heading back to Ireland after they were responsible for all seven of the final declarations.
British horses The Changing Man and Haiti Couleurs were both ineligible for the contest and the remaining seven entries all stood their ground.
Ballyburn currently tops the market as he bids to follow up his Grade 1 success at the Dublin Racing Festival last month, while Willie Mullins is also responsible for the second favourite Dancing City, plus Lecky Watson and Quai de Bourbon.
Gordon Elliott will be represented by last year's Martin Pipe winner Better Days Ahead, who is two from three over fences after winning a Grade 2 at Navan in February, and last season's Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle scorer Stellar Story.
Henry De Bromhead's seven-year-old Gorgeous Tom completes the field of seven.
