Sam King is back with two selections from Wolverhampton this evening…
Talented up-and-coming apprentice Warren Fentiman will be in hot demand this week with it being restricted to riders who have ridden less than 30 winner's last season. He's already shown he's more than capable of getting the job done and his 7lb claim is a massive advantage.
That 7lb claim could be exactly what is required to see Mamdoh return to the winners' enclosure in the second division of the 1m6f Class 6 handicap at 6.30. The Joseph Parr-trained runner has done well since being fitted with cheekpieces, winning readily over this course and distance earlier in the month before finishing a good second at Southwell last Friday.
That Southwell contest looks much stronger than this on paper and the front trio pulled seven lengths clear of the fourth. This lightly raced four-year-old remains unexposed over staying trips on the all-weather and should have every chance of getting back to winning ways with Warren Fentiman's valuable 7lb claim.
1pt Win – Mamdoh
Odds – 5/4
Experienced rider George Wood enjoyed a winner at Wolverhampton last night and could well have another with Mariner in the extended 1m handicap at 8.00.
It's slightly surprising he remains a maiden after sixteen outings to date because he's clearly capable of winning a contest like this, evidenced by his good third-place finish over course and distance eight days ago.
He stayed on nicely from midfield to finish back in third that day and the form has taken a couple of fair boosts since for the grade, with the runner-up readily landing a classified event at Lingfield recently and the fourth-place horse winning readily off the same mark over course and distance yesterday evening.
Early market support for Waistcoat is interesting after he's been gelded ahead of his stable debut, but the Dylan Cunha team are 0-9 in the last two weeks and don't look to be firing on all cylinders at present. In contrast, Jennie Candlish has banged in seven winners from her previous 24 runners over the last fortnight, a strike-rate of 29% which certainly isn't to be snubbed given the size of her stable.
Stall three should ensure he gets a good trip round, and this well-bred gelded son of Kingman is expected to be firmly involved at the business end off an unchanged mark of 60.
1pt E/W – Mariner
Odds – 9/2
