The Changing Man continued the strong Tizzard record in the 3m Grade 2 Reynoldstown Novices’ Chase, with an emphatic victory.
Joe Tizzard's yard, with the license previously held by Colin Tizzard, have won three of the last seven renewals of the contest, including with fan favourites Copperhead and Mister Malarky.
The Changing Man had been previously unsuccessful over fences, recording a consistent five seconds from nine attempts. Second in the Great Yorkshire Handicap Chase at Doncaster on his last start, the eight-year-old has displayed a very solid jumping style, which proved beneficial in novice company.
Tizzard's gelding faced a tough test against Jingko Blue, from the Nicky Henderson yard, but the favourite unseated at the third fence, leaving The Changing Man unchallenged in front. He came home twenty-four lengths clear of Leave Of Absence with Peaky Boy last of the trio.
In an interview with ITV, Brendan Powell said: "He's just been bumping into one that was slightly better handicapped or just better than him on the day and he's finally got a one by his name.
"I was aware that Nico's [de Boinville] horse gave that fence a bit of a rub and then I saw Jingko Blue was loose. But I was going to ride The Changing Man the same way I was going to anyway, just as handy as he was happy, and then get him into a rhythm. So the fact that there was one less didn't really change that."
Tizzard added: "We've made an entry into the Brown Advisory Novice's Chase. We've been handicapping all season and we've just come short through no fault of his own, but just bumped into one. I don't know if we've found anymore out today, that's novice chases for you, you've got to jump round. He was impressive and we'll enjoy today and then we'll discuss further.
"We haven't' been in small handicaps, we've been in £100k handicaps and I think he's been unlucky not to have won one. Last year he made a couple of mistakes, this year he's jumped well. It's a lovely performance, a lovely confidence booster as much as anything for the horse. We can enjoy it and make the decisions.
"The Ultima Handicap Chase is the other option, you'd have thought. He's only a novice for a couple more months, so we'll see what we do. If the Brown Advisory field cuts up, then maybe, I don't know."
