Both Hereford and Plumpton will have to pass precautionary inspections at 7:30am and 8:30am respectively on account of heavy rainfall forecast overnight for both courses. Plumpton falls within a yellow weather warning area, with a current going description of soft, good to soft in places set to get heavier on account of Storm Eowyn. Hereford is currently reporting good to soft, soft in places after an additional 10 millimetres of rain fell on Sunday afternoon. Leicester's Wednesday card is also on weather watch with heavy rain set to fall on Sunday night. Officials are set to inspect tomorrow at 7:45am.

Impressive bumper winner Maughreen is set to make her hurdling debut at Punchestown on Monday. The six-year-old, who is closely related to legendary Champion Hurdle hero Faugheen, faced a setback on the back of her striking eleven-length debut victory. Having recovered from that issue, she is set to contest the 2m3½f BetVictor Graduation Series Mares Maiden Hurdle where she will face a field of thirteen.

One-time Breeders' Cup winner White Abarrio rolled back the years on Saturday to land the $3 million Pegasus World Cup at Gulfstream Park. The Saffie Joseph Jr trained six-year-old had previously won the Grade 1 Florida Derby in 2022, the Grade 1 Whitney Stakes at Saratoga and most notably, the 2023 renewal of the Breeders' Cup Classic. Ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr, the grey broke well from the stalls on this occasion and accelerated to the front comfortably in the home straight to prevail by six-and-a-quarter lengths.

Dan Skelton has outlined his plans to avoid the Cheltenham Gold Cup with stable star Grey Dawning, instead preferring to target the Listed Bet 365 Premier Chase at Kelso at the beginning of March followed by the Grade 1 William Hill Aintree Bowl. Already boasting a Grade 1 success in the Turners Novices' Chase at last year's Cheltenham Festival, the eight-year-old's taxing early season engagements in a heavy ground Betfair Chase and the King George VI Chase have prompted the Warwickshire handler to work backwards from the Grand National meeting in April.
