Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for May 16.
Australian thoroughbred TAB meetings are today held at Scone, Albury, Cranbourne, Werribee, Townsville and Albany.
SCONE: RACE 1 @ 12:20 PM
APOLLO RIDGE (4) started favourite when fresh from a spell last start over this trip at Wyong but failed narrowly after trying to lead all the way. Strips fitter and doesn't meet a deep field here so he gets his chance. HE'S COOL (8) whacked away to get up for a distance second when resuming on a heavy track at Newcastle last time out. Should appreciate an extra 100m today and looks the obvious threat. RIVANA (7) looked to have every possible hope when third as favourite over today's journey at Quirindi recently. Has had plenty of chances and needs to lift to trouble favourite. Each-way the right option. I AM BRAVE (6) on debut for Richard and Will Freedman has been well found in early markets on the back of a decent trial at Rosehill on 9 May. Obviously has a bit to offer. Locally trained debutant FAVOUR THE BOLD (2) is doing enough at the trials to suggest he can run well here.
SELECTIONS: Apollo Ridge to win the first and build a bank for the day.

ALBURY: RACE 7 @ 3:45 PM
GRINZINGER MOON (6) continued her hot form with a commanding front-running win over a similar trip at Yarra Valley. Has been freshened with 46 days in between, keeping the legs ticking over with a sharp trial. Is racing in rarefied air and can continue on her winning ways. MOJO MUSIC (5) has been mixing his form but boasts peaks that measure up. Shoulders a strong record over this track and trip. No shock to see him in the thick of it. RUPERTS RED ROCKET (3) stormed home from the rear to grab second when resuming at Wangaratta. Proven at this trip and cannot be overlooked. CHASING A QUID (4) has been mixing his form but isn't without a chance if he brings his A-game.

CRANBOURNE: RACE 3 @ 6:15 PM
FLORINA REGION (3) started favourite on debut at Geelong over 1212m, beaten just a nose in a desperate finish. Expecting she improves off that and takes a power of beating here. GRANDSTRAZ (9) is a promising filly who resumed with a good run at Donald when third. Fitter for that and maps well. FEROCIOUS FRANKIE (8) is a filly by Darci Brahma on debut for the Busuttin & Young stable. She's jumped out well enough for a home track debut against the older horses which can be profitable over the coming months. ECHUCA MOAMA (2) could be an improver.

WERRIBEE: RACE 7 @ 4:00 PM
Lots of these making up the numbers. CLAVEL (5) looks the one on best form. Won her maiden then placed in a BM64 before heading to Flemington last time where she found it a bit tough. Right back in grade and gets chance to atone. WOMEN IN UNIFORM (11) is building to a win, the latest a nose defeat in similar grade. Scratched recently and saved for this and looks hard to hold out. VEGAS ON FIRE (4) was a gutsy winner fresh after a long break. Will strip much fitter and extra trip a plus. DESIGNS OF EIGHT (12) raced below her best last time when sixth over 1800m at Horsham, beaten 9 lengths. Well placed and should be in the mix. Close up in a BM64 the start prior so gets another chance. SINISTER SAUCE (13) has been freshened since a run over further but was good this journey the start prior and goes into the mix.

TOWNSVILLE: RACE 4 @ 2:57 PM
ACCLIMATISE (3) is racing very consistently of late with two wins and two seconds from his past four starts and is yet to miss the top two in three attempts over this track and trip. High on confidence of late and should be going very close again. OUR TURN NOW (7) is a last-start winner who draws low and gets in well at the weights with the 3kg claim. Ticks a few boxes. STRATHCONA (1) is two from two over this course and distance and will be rock-hard fit for this. Cannot be discounted. FROM THIS MOMENT (6) has won three from four over this mile journey and will strip fitter second-up from the break. Shapes as a leading contender. The well-related I SAY BOOM (9) (half to 6xG1 winner Chautauqua) rounds out the selections.

ALBANY: RACE 4 @ 2:55 PM
GIFT OF THE HEART (2) brought up the hat-trick with a 1.6L victory over 1500m here last start as favourite and now drops back o 1230m. He's likely to lead as he did two back at this track and trip and he's nicely weighted after the claim of Webster. In fine form and can extend his winning streak. HANG GLIDER (4) comes back from Saturday grade and looks well placed on his best form. He disappointed two back and was just fair 6 days ago, but he was in better touch prior. Can bounce back to his best. BLUE LINE (5) was well behind the winner last start but returns to the scene of his last victory. Up in trip should suit and he can be in a good position from the draw. Expecting him to be right in the finish. AGENT JAY (3) was behind Blue Line first-up and will be better for that effort. Can feature in the finish again. BEAU ZOOM (1) has won 2/7 fresh and looked good in a recent Lark Hill trial. Include.
