‘It’s tough to gauge just where his ceiling will lie’ - Sam King’s daily wagers

All eyes will be on the eight Group 1 winners heading into battle in the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury this afternoon.

Rosallion makes his eagerly-awaited reappearance having landed the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot last season, while the likes of 2000 Guineas hero Notable Speech, Tamfana and the Ryan Moore-ridden Dancing Gemini all bring top-class form to the table.

My slight preference would be for the race-fit Dancing Gemini with Ryan Moore up for the first time but in all truth, I'm happy for it to be a watching brief judged on the current prices.

King's Gambit could be set for a profitable season after being gelded by top connections recently.

He was having just his second start beyond a mile and a quarter when finishing a rock-solid fourth behind Rebel's Romance and The Foxes in the Amir Trophy in Qatar in February. The form of that contest has worked out well with Rebel's Romance going on to land the Yorkshire Cup yesterday, while The Foxes, who is a solid performer in Group 2 company, went on to readily claim The Huxley Stakes at Chester's May meeting.

A four-length winner of the London Gold Cup on this card twelve months ago, King's Gambit also showed high-class form over this trip when third behind the Aidan O'Brien duo of Los Angeles and Illinois in the Group 2 Sky Bet Great Voltigeur Stakes at York last season.

He still could have more to give this year and can land the opening Sky Sports Racing Aston Park Stakes in first-time blinkers under Ryan Moore.

1pt Win – King's Gambit

Odds – 5/2

In the Listed Carnarvon Stakes, Symbol Of Honour is selected to bounce back to winning ways.

The drop back to six furlongs looks like a really positive move for Charlie Appleby's colt, who pulled too hard in the early stages over seven when slightly disappointing in Listed company at Newmarket last time.

He looked like a very useful prospect when beating the George Scott-trained West Acre in a conditions race over this trip at Meydan earlier in the year and it wouldn't be surprising were he to return to form here, especially with the expected quick ground to suit.

1pt Win – Symbol Of Honour

Odds – 5/1

Later on the card, My Cloud could take plenty of stopping in the Boylesports Home Of The Early Payout Handicap.

Trained by Roger Varian, he fairly made a mockery of his opening mark of 80 at Ascot last month, quickening up in fine style to score by three and a half lengths.

The Newmarket-based handler won that contest with a similar type back in 2018, and while a 10lb rise in the weights demands more from My Cloud, it's tough to gauge just where his ceiling will lie.

This galloping track on decent ground should play to his strengths and being a half-brother to the top-class miler Palace Pier, he could easily prove equal to that 10lb rise.

1pt Win – My Cloud

Odds – Evs
