PORT ADELAIDE v MELBOURNE

Sunday 15 June @ Adelaide Oval

After recent happenings, this is effectively an Elimination Final come three months early.

They sit 15th and 14th respectively and even if playing OK, simply cannot afford a loss.

Port Adelaide needed that reset before the GWS game and did well to get up at Manuka in a tight, low scoring battle.

Starting well was important and just that little burst of confidence gave them cover later in the game when they fell behind at the Half.

The late blast sealed the deal. Probably no surprise it was the leaders Butters, Rozee and Wines that led the way.

Notes Port has not scored 100+ points against Melbourne since 2016.
Melbourne has not scored 100+ points against Port since 2011.

But to Melbourne's credit, while they lost their game, it was an outstanding effort deserving of 4 points.

Not sure they could have done much more to beat Collingwood on such a big day. Even when going down 3 goals just after half time, they rallied hard.

It was a lot of Petracca and Gawn and bits of Oliver sprinkled in. Forget the post-match mania – that was chicken feed compared to the effort.

Don't expect a high scoring one here given history. Maybe give Melbourne a last chance.

Match Selection: Melbourne by 7 points
