Racing and Sports will provide analysis of games in the 2025 AFL Season.
We'll endeavour to run through the form, incorporate appropriate stats and also supply a betting prediction which won't always just be who will win.
MELBOURNE v COLLINGWOOD
Monday 9 June @ MCG
The King's Birthday game with all the beautiful things that happen with Neale Daniher looked like being usurped to some extent with the form of these sides.
That was until the Demons went inland and came out with all sorts of issues.
Not many tipped St Kilda to win, fewer had them winning by 4 goals. But that didn't tell the story.
Melbourne scored 7.21. Bad kicking is bad footy they say. What is monumentally bad kicking called?
Had they have put more pressure on the Saints it could have been different. But 1 goal and 12 behinds in the second half is the opposite.
Match | Melbourne | Collingwood | Ground |
Last time they met | 8.9 [57] | 15.13 [103] | MCG |
Last 10 matches | 2 wins | 8 wins
Notes | Melbourne don't kick big scores with no 100+ points since 2020.
Strangely neither do Collingwood with last year the first 100+ since 2018. |
In order to beat Collingwood you need to bring your best. Without it you suffer. They draw you in to the backline then run like whippets.
Transition kills teams and the pace on the ball is so hard to stop. Melbourne defends usually well but surely they won't hold the ball in the forward line long enough.
Even if they tag N Daicos hard, someone else like Sidebottom or Pendlebury will get them. Or his brother.
A wet day would make it interesting and that is predicted. Otherwise you just have to make the Pies the pick some way.
