This race more than lived up to expectations.
There was a thrilling finish with favourite Croix du Nord just holding on long enough to deny the flying Masquerade Ball and win the Tokyo Yushun (Japanese Derby) by ¾ length. Another 10 metres and the result may have been different.
Shohei with Lemaire on board also finished well for third denying Satono Shining who had been up front for most of the race.
There are 7,950 registered 3yos in Japan (we presume that includes females and geldings) and today's race showed some of the best. It will be interesting to see where the participants head to next.
