There was much to take forward from the 3 day program.
Starting with the Gallinule G3 on Friday for the 3yos over 2000m with 5 running it was the stablemate Thrice at 12/1 that took the honours and not Shackleton who stared favourite. Shackleton is by Camelot and may need more time. Emit was second at 15/2 and Reyenzi, who had crossed the line first, was demoted to third.
Saturday's card started off with a bit of an upset in the Greenlands G2 1200m contest when James's Delight on 22/1 won for Cox – Oisin Murphy. Lethal Levi was second and Big Gossey third at 33/1.
The 2000 Guineas G1 saw an impressive win from the grey Field of Gold who took control of the race once into the straight and finished 3 ¼ lengths ahead of Cosmic Year 14/1 with Hotazhell running well but not well enough to upset the winner.
On Sunday the G3 Marble Hill saw a good win from the fast Albert Einstein giving Ryan Moore the first leg of a four-timer and the first leg of a treble for trainer Aidan O'Brien. Power Blue was second at 11/1 and Andaab third. The winner will now head to Ascot although O'Brien says that they do not announce the entries until the week before.
Our beloved Porta Fortuna did the right thing for us and all the faithful by winning the Lanwades Stud 1600m G2. This was part of a treble for Donnacha O'Brien and of course the jockey was Ryan Moore. One Look kept the winner honest but Porta Fortuna is a very feisty conveyance and does not like any horse passing her. Naomi Lapaglia was third on 10/1.
The Gold Cup G1 2100m finished up with 9 runners and the handsome Los Angeles, a confirmed fighter, did not allow any horse to get between him and the winning post. It required a bit of an effort but Ryan Moore was on deck to assist. Future plans include Ascot and then possibly on to the Arc. Anmaat ran well for second but the winner was determined, and Kalpana just nosed out White Birch in a photo for third. It's likely that they too will head to Ascot and possibly the Arc.
The G1 1000 Guineas saw a stunning win from Lake Victoria who has now set up an incredible record of winning G1s as a 2yo and now as a 3yo. She won three G1s over different distances, on different surfaces and on different tracks as a 2yo. She was probably not quite 100% for the UK version but was impressive here. California Dreamer was up the front most of the race and stayed on to take second having started at 50/1 and Cercene 20/1 was third.
Over in the UK on Saturday racing was at Haydock where Symbol of Honour won the Sandy Lane for Appleby-Buick by a short head from Arabian Dash 18/1 and First Instinct 11/1.
The Temple G2 saw another winner for William Buick who rode a 400/1 four-timer on the day when Mgheera saluted for Ed Walker. She's Quality was second and Washington Heights third.
