78 Arc entries revealed, although Desert Flower is a notable absentee

78 horses were among the entries revealed on Wednesday for this year’s Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, with Britain, Ireland, France, Japan and Germany all represented.

Last weekend's Poule d'Essai des Pouliches winner Zarigana featured among the entries for the home contingent, while the Wertheimer Et Frere duo of Aventure and Sosie, who finished second and fourth in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe last season, make the return to Longchamp. Andre Fabre, who has six horses engaged at this stage, could also saddle last year's fifth Sevenna's Knight, while the Wathnan Racing-owned Map Of Stars makes up part of Francis-Henri Graffard's current six-strong team

No trainer is responsible for more entries than Aidan O'Brien, with the Ballydoyle maestro responsible for eight horses at this early stage. Epsom Derby hopeful The Lion In Winter, who runs at York tomorrow, was on the entry list with Delacroix and Twain. O'Brien had mooted a possible trip to the Arc for Superstar stayer Kyprios, but he did not feature, although last year's third Los Angeles has been handed an entry.

Charlie Appleby entered both his 2000 Guineas hero Ruling Court and older horse Ancient Wisdom. However, his unbeaten 1000 Guineas winner Desert Flower was not given an entry.

Last year's winning trainer Ralph Beckett has five entries, while owner's Juddmonte, who plundered the prize with Bluestocking twelve months ago, are responsible for the entry of Andrew Balding's Group 1 winner Kalpana.

The William Haggas-trained Economics, who won the Prix Guillaume d'Ornano before his success in the Irish Champion Stakes, was another notable name on the list from Britain.

The six Japanese entries are headed by Yoshito Yahagi's French-bred Siyouni colt Shin Emperor. He could attempt to better his twelfth-place finish last season.

The twelve-furlong feature Group 1 prize will take place at Paris Longchamp on October 5th.
