TRIAL POINTERS

ROSEHILL June 6: PRIVATE EYE had his fourth trial since April in his prolonged preparation for the Stradbroke Handicap after bypassing lead up races in Brisbane due to wet tracks. After easy work in previous trials he took up the running in his 900m heat and had no trouble controlling the pace to run out a soft winner in slow time (55.97; 35.06).

RANDWICK May 30: Super consistent 4YO NEED SOME LUCK showed he has freshened nicely since his trip to the Gold Coast in early May with an impressive win his 1045m heat (64.40; 35.68). Allowed to find his rhythm in the first 400m, he started to loop the field from the 500m and surged to the line over the last 100m for a soft win with plenty in reserve. GETAFIX went with him over the last 200m and also put in good work through the line. Fast black type sprinter THE INSTRUCTOR has won three of his last four starts and showed he is holding his form well with a runaway win in the fastest 1045m heat (63.10; 34.29), having too much speed for his rivals to score by almost five lengths.

ROSEHILL May 29: Pierro gelding COLD BREW looks primed for a maiden win after winning the fastest of the five heats over 1030m (62.59; 35.49) under a choke hold. He's been placed in three of his four starts and could have won this heat by a wide margin if his rider had let him stride at any stage. Other heat winners worth noting included ALBANY ROAD while those taking the eye with quiet trials included AGITA, HOW MUCH BETTER and DIDDLE DUMPLING.

WARWICK FARM May 13: In the fastest of the three 1200m heats (73.36; 35.41) ICEBREAKER, a good staying prospect, took the eye with his closing fourth. PRIVATE EYE had his second trial since December with impressive late work in his 790m heat. He finished sixth, three lengths from the winner, after Nash Rawiller rode him quietly at the rear before easing widest on the turn. It was only over the last 100m that he slipped the G1 winner some rein with his work through the line hard to miss. In the four 2YO trials over 787m the heat winner ALBANY ROAD (47.11; 34.32) led his heat to record a clear cut win. Other youngsters that took the eye included CROSS TASMAN is an unraced Super Seth colt with a bright future.

WARWICK FARM April 29: Group One star PRIVATE EYE had an easy time in the heavy ground in his first trial since December. He finished fifth in a keenly run heat over 799m.
